UNDULATING INITIALLY, CLIMBS SIGNIFICANTLY ABOUT MID-STAGE THEN FAIRLY LEVEL. THERE ARE SEVERAL CROSS-COUNTRY SECTIONS, BUT THIS IS PREDOMINATELY A STAGE ON ROADS AND TRACKS.

  1. Start where the route turns west off the road at Rampisham radio masts (GR549007). Note the incoming runner will arrive from the south-west climbing up the road rather than the east as one would expect.

  2. Follow the track for a quarter of a mile to go through second gate into a field.
  3. Follow the right-hand hedge to a small wooden gate, from where the ground drops away. Angle half left across the next field to a gate hidden in the trees.
Go through and keep the hedge on your left as you go over a ridge. Go through a metal gate to cross a road and continue straight on down a path.

  4. Emerge across a small bridge into Hooke. Turn right, left and right on to the lane past the lake. As the road curves left after Hooke school, go right through the field gate.
  5. Head across the field towards the left of the wood to find an unseen stile. Cross the stile and run on with the wood on your right. Just before the corner of the field turn right to find a stile hidden in the hedge.

  6. Slant left to leave the field by a gate in the far left corner. Keep along the lane in the same direction (the signs are confusing here) . Climbing to a junction, turn right for 'Toller Whelme'. Follow the road for a mile . After passing Lake farm the road becomes tarmac again. Carry on past the manor and fork left before West Farm as the road curves right. (there is a sign but it is hidden behind a tree).
  7. Carry straight on, to the left of the barn, along the left edge of two fields to reach the B3163 road.

  8. Turn left along the road for 100 yards then right into a lane signed 'Langdon-no through road'. This gives you a mile and a half of straight running. Just carry straight on as the road deviates left and the track goes right to leave you on a green road. Cross a road and carry on along the same line down the left-hand edge of a field, emerging on to another road. Turn left and follow the road for half a mile, a metal wheel with the sign 'Buckham Down' on the left marks the left turn into the changeover.
